Toilet Electrovalve Maintenance

The toilet electro-valve takes place on the fresh water hoses, which bring fresh water to the toilets. There is one per toilet in the boat. When you press on the flush button, you can hear an small “click” which means that the electro-valve opens and let the fresh water come in. The pressure is provided by the fresh water pump itself.

A classic problem occurs when this electro-valve gets dirty with lime, or other small things coming from the fresh water tank. Most of the time, a simple clean up of this small device is the solution, and there is no need to replace all this expensive valve. The symptom of this trouble is when freshwater never stops leaking in the toilet.

Here is a “How to” description of the way you can proceed for the cleaning up. You will have to isolate the valve from the fresh water circuit by closing the white cock taking place just before the valve. It is also important to turn off the toilet circuit breaker in order to make sure there is no electricity in the electro-valve while you maintain it.

You can then proceed to the cleaning of the valve itsef :

1 – Remove the bolt on top of the valve (flat wrench N°14)

2- The big black electric part is now removable. Put it aside

3- Unclip the black plastic cover, watch out the small o-ring. This gives you access to 4 screws :

4- Unscrew the 4 screws with a flat screwdriver or a Torx one. You can see the inscription “top”, you need to remember and keep this orientation  for the re-mounting.

5- Remove carefully the metallic part, you will have access to the diaphragme. The inside of this diaphragm is the part you need to clean with fresh water and a wipe.

6- Now that everything is clean, the diaphragme is watertight again. You can re-assemble it
